TREKKING OVERVIEW

SHORT ITINERARY

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Distance: ∼7.9 km
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
Highest Point: 2,641 m — Senaru Crater Rim
Elevation Gain: Approximately +2,000 m
Trekking Duration: Approximately 6.5 hours

  • Starting the Trek: After breakfast at your accommodation, our driver will pick you up at around 7:30 AM and take you to the Senaru entrance of Mount Rinjani National Park. Once you arrive, complete the necessary preparations before beginning your trek toward the crater rim.
  • Senaru Entrance → Pos 1: The first section follows a relatively gentle trail through the lush tropical rainforest, with mostly flat terrain and gradual elevation gain. The approximately 1 km trek to Pos 1 takes around 40 minutes.
  • Pos 1 → Pos 2: After Pos 1, the trail gradually becomes steeper, with exposed tree roots and more uneven terrain along the way. The 2.7 km section to Pos 2 takes approximately 2 hours. Upon arrival, take a well-deserved 40-minute lunch break surrounded by the rainforest, where you may also encounter playful monkeys.
  • Pos 2 → Pos 3: After lunch, the landscape gradually changes as the dense forest gives way to more open grassland. The trail continues uphill for approximately 2.4 km, taking around 1.5 hours to reach Pos 3. Take a short break here before continuing toward Pos 4.
  • Pos 3 → Pos 4: The trail becomes more technical and steeper, with large natural steps, loose soil, and slippery sections. This 1.5 km section takes approximately 40 minutes, requiring a steady pace and careful footing.
  • Pos 4 → Senaru Crater Rim: The final 300-meter ascent is the most challenging section of the day. The rocky trail becomes steeper as you approach the crater rim, taking approximately 20 minutes to complete.
  • Senaru Crater Rim: After reaching the 2,641-meter crater rim, take in the spectacular views of the vast Rinjani caldera, Segara Anak Lake, and the distinctive volcanic cone of Mount Barujari. On a clear day, the Gili Islands can be seen along the horizon. As evening arrives, enjoy an unforgettable sunset over Mount Rinjani from your campsite.
Night Trek to Mount Rinjani Summit

Distance: ∼8 km return
Difficulty: Difficult
Highest Point: 3,726 m — Mount Rinjani Summit
Elevation Gain/Loss: +1,120 m / -1,120 m
Trekking Duration: Approximately 3 hours ascent + 2 hours descent

  • Summit Ascent: Wake up around 2:00 AM and enjoy a light breakfast before beginning the pre-dawn climb to the Mount Rinjani Summit (3,726 m). The approximately 3.3 km ascent takes around 3 hours. The trail starts relatively gently before becoming progressively steeper and more sandy. After the first hour, the terrain briefly becomes more gradual, but temperatures can drop significantly as you climb above 3,000 meters.
  • Final Summit Push: The final section is the most demanding part of the climb, with steep slopes, loose gravel, and sandy volcanic terrain. Progress can be slow as the loose surface makes every step more challenging. A steady pace, patience, and careful footing are essential to reach the summit safely.
  • Sunrise at the Summit: Reach the summit in time to witness a spectacular sunrise over Lombok Island. From the highest point of Mount Rinjani, enjoy panoramic views of Lombok, the surrounding volcanic landscape, and neighboring Sumbawa Island on a clear morning. After approximately 20 minutes at the summit, begin the descent back to the campsite, which takes around 2 hours.

Sembalun Crater Rim → Segara Anak Lake

Distance: ∼3.9 km
Difficulty: Moderate
Highest Point: 2,639 m — Sembalun Crater Rim
Elevation Loss: Approximately -639 m
Trekking Duration: Approximately 2.5–3 hours

  • Descent to Segara Anak Lake: After returning from the summit, enjoy a well-deserved brunch at the campsite before beginning the descent to Segara Anak Lake. The first section follows a steep and rocky trail for approximately 1.5 hours before gradually becoming gentler and entering light forest cover.
  • Segara Anak Lake & Natural Hot Springs: After approximately 2.5–3 hours of trekking, reach the lakeside and take a well-deserved break. Enjoy lunch beside the lake before walking approximately 5 minutes to the nearby natural hot springs. Relax, soak your tired muscles, and recharge before continuing the descent toward the next campsite.

Segara Anak Lake → Prokok Camping Area

Difficulty: Moderate
Highest Point: 2,000 m — Segara Anak Lake
Elevation Loss: Approximately -600 m
Trekking Duration: Approximately 3 hours

  • Descent to Prokok Camping Area: After relaxing at Segara Anak Lake, continue your journey toward the Prokok Camping Area. The trail descends through loose volcanic soil and gradually enters lighter forest cover. The approximately 3.3 km descent takes around 3 hours.
  • Overnight at Prokok Camping Area: After completing the descent, arrive at the Prokok campsite, surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes and lush green valleys. Settle into camp, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and rest for the next stage of your Rinjani adventure.

Distance: ∼9.2 km
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
Highest Point: 1,400 m — Prokok Camping Area
Elevation Loss: Approximately -815 m
Trekking Duration: Approximately 6–7 hours

  • Starting the Descent: Wake up early to the peaceful sounds of birdsong and enjoy breakfast before beginning the descent toward Torean Village. The journey takes approximately 6–7 hours and offers a completely different landscape from the previous sections of the Rinjani trek.
  • Prokok → Torean Valley: The trail begins with a short uphill section before gradually descending along dramatic cliffside paths. Surrounded by towering mountains and rugged volcanic formations, the landscape is often described as resembling Jurassic Park. Along the way, you will pass spectacular waterfalls and breathtaking viewpoints.
  • Through the Rainforest: After approximately one hour of descent, the trail enters the lush tropical rainforest. The cool atmosphere and dense vegetation provide a refreshing contrast to the exposed volcanic landscapes above. Continue through the forest until reaching the designated lunch stop.
  • Final Descent to Torean Village: After lunch, continue the final approximately 3-hour descent through dense rainforest and the scenic Torean Valley. The trail gradually leads toward the end point at Torean Village, where your driver will be waiting to pick you up.
  • End of the Trek: After arriving at Torean Village, transfer to our office to collect your remaining luggage and freshen up before continuing by vehicle to your next destination.

A spectacular final chapter to your Rinjani adventure, combining dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, lush rainforest, and the unforgettable landscapes of the Torean Valley.
