SHORT ITINERARY

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Distance: 9 km
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
Highest Point: 2,639 m — Sembalun Crater Rim
Elevation Gain: Approximately +1,539 m
Trekking Duration: Approximately 6–7 hours

  • Starting the Adventure : Your Rinjani adventure begins after breakfast at your accommodation. At around 7:00 AM, our driver will pick you up and take you to Sembalun Village, approximately 45 minutes away. Upon arrival, you will complete the required medical check and registration at the Geopark Office before heading to the official trekking starting point. The trek to the Sembalun Crater Rim takes approximately 6–7 hours, passing through open savannah, light forest, and increasingly steep terrain. Along the route, there are four designated posts where you can take short breaks.
  • Sembalun Starting Point → Pos 1 : The trail begins with a relatively gentle section, passing through light forest before opening into the vast grasslands of Sembalun. The 3.7 km journey to Pos 1 takes approximately 1.5 hours.
  • Pos 1 → Pos 2 : From Pos 1, continue across the open savannah along a relatively gentle trail. With limited shade along this section, sun protection and sufficient water are highly recommended. The 1.4 km trek to Pos 2 takes approximately 30 minutes. Upon arrival, enjoy a 40-minute lunch break surrounded by the beautiful Sembalun landscape.
  • Pos 2 → Pos 3 : After lunch, the trail gradually becomes steeper and more challenging as you gain elevation. The landscape transitions into lighter forest cover, providing some shade along the way. The 1.7 km section to Pos 3 takes approximately 35 minutes.
  • Pos 3 → Pos 4 : Beyond Pos 3, the trail becomes noticeably steeper, with an incline of around 25 degrees. The vegetation becomes denser, with more trees and less open grassland. The 850-meter climb to Pos 4 takes approximately 1 hour. A steady and controlled pace is recommended as the terrain becomes more demanding.
  • Pos 4 → Sembalun Crater Rim : The final 1.4 km is the most challenging section of the day. The trail becomes steeper, with loose soil, slippery sections, and large natural steps requiring careful footing. Allow approximately 2 hours to reach the Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639 m).
  • Sembalun Crater Rim : Once you reach the crater rim, settle into your campsite and take in the spectacular views of Segara Anak Lake and the surrounding volcanic landscape.

As the sun begins to set, enjoy a breathtaking Rinjani sunset from the comfort of your campsite—a perfect way to end the first day before the early-morning summit adventure.
