TREKKING OVERVIEW

SHORT ITINERARY

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Distance: 7.9 km
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
Highest Point: 2,641 m — Senaru Crater Rim
Elevation Gain: Approximately +2,000 m
Trekking Duration: Approximately 6.5 hours

  • Startting the Trek : After breakfast at your accommodation, our driver will pick you up at 7:30 AM and take you to the Senaru entrance of Mount Rinjani National Park. From here, your trek toward the crater rim begins.
  • Senaru Entrance - Pos 1 : The first section is relatively gentle, following a mostly flat trail through the lush tropical rainforest. The 1 km journey to Pos 1 takes approximately 40 minutes.
  • Pos 1 - Pos 2 : Beyond Pos 1, the trail gradually becomes steeper, with exposed tree roots adding more challenge to the climb. This 2.7 km section takes around 2 hours. Upon reaching Pos 2, stop for a well-deserved lunch break surrounded by the rainforest. You may also encounter playful monkeys in the area. After approximately 40 minutes, continue your ascent toward Pos 3.
  • Pos 2 - Pos 3 : As you leave the denser forest behind, the landscape gradually opens up, with more grassland replacing the thick vegetation. The 2.4 km trek to Pos 3 takes approximately 1.5 hours. Take a short rest at Pos 3 before continuing toward Pos 4.
  • Pos 3 - Pos 4 : The trail becomes steeper and more technical, featuring large steps, loose soil, and slippery sections. This 1.5 km stretch takes approximately 40 minutes to reach Pos 4.
  • Pos 4 - Senaru Crater Rim : The final 300-meter ascent is one of the most challenging sections of the trek. The rocky and steep trail requires careful footing, but the spectacular views from the crater rim make the effort worthwhile. Allow approximately 20 minutes for this final climb.
Senaru Crater Rim

Reaching the Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 m) marks the highlight of the day. From here, enjoy breathtaking views of the vast Rinjani caldera, the deep blue waters of Segara Anak Lake, and the distinctive volcanic cone of Mount Barujari.

On a clear day, you can also see the Gili Islands stretching across the horizon. As evening approaches, settle into camp and enjoy an unforgettable Rinjani sunset overlooking the dramatic volcanic landscape.

Distance: 2.5 km return
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
Highest Point: 3,126 m — Mount Sangkareang (Second Summit)
Elevation Gain/Loss: +485 m / -485 m
Trekking Duration: Approximately 2.5 hours

Night Trek to the Second Summit

03:30 AM — Wake Up & Prepare : Wake up early and enjoy a light snack before beginning your pre-dawn ascent to Mount Sangkareang (3,126 m), also known as Rinjani’s Second Summit.

With headlamps on, follow the 2 km trail through steep, rocky, and occasionally overgrown terrain. The climb can be challenging, especially in the darkness, but the peaceful atmosphere and anticipation of sunrise make it a truly rewarding experience.

Sunrise at Mount Sangkareang

05:30 AM — Reach the Summit : Arrive at the Second Summit just in time for sunrise and take in breathtaking panoramic views across northern Lombok. On a clear morning, you can see the Gili Islands, Lombok’s coastline, and the impressive main summit of Mount Rinjani in the distance. Although Segara Anak Lake is not visible from this viewpoint, the expansive mountain and coastal panorama makes the summit a spectacular place to welcome the new day.

07:00 AM — Return to Camp : After enjoying the sunrise and taking some time to capture the scenery, descend back to the crater rim. Once you arrive at camp, enjoy a hearty breakfast and take some time to rest before continuing the trek.

Senaru Crater Rim → Senaru Village

  • Through the Rainforest : After passing Pos 3, the trail gradually returns to the lush tropical rainforest. The cooler atmosphere, shade, and gentle breeze make this section of the descent more comfortable and enjoyable. After approximately 4 hours of trekking, you'll reach Pos 1, where you can stop for lunch and take a well-deserved break.
  • Senaru Village & Trek Completion : After lunch, continue the final 25-minute descent toward the Senaru National Park entrance. Our driver will meet you at the finish point and transfer you to our office. Collect your remaining luggage, freshen up, and continue by vehicle to your next destination.
